Twin SU Installation
Twin SUs are the only True and Proper method of introducing a fuel-air mixture into a British lorry motor masquerading as a sports car engine.
The adoption of the Stromberg was an attempt to reduce emissions and meet Federal clean air requirements. Along with the introduction of the Stromberg the cam was detuned as well. Other Federal changes were minimal as far as performance was concerned (mainly evaporative controls).
Interestingly, what passes for a 3/4 race cam for the Spitfire is very close to what Triumph were putting in the cars back in '67.
Getting the '70 Spitfire back to proper trim and performance can be done with a 3/4 cam, a header, and the twin SUs.
The only better option, though spendy, would be a nice set up of twin-all-sucking-Webers.....

The way I have the choke cable routed is a Bad Idea. Do it the way they did it from the factory.
I thought that routing the choke cable under the dash and out through the fire wall over the top of the battery would be a very clean and neat installation.
It is. Much better than the way the factory did it, which was out the fire wall betwixt the clutch and brake master cylinders, then swooping over the top of the valve cover to the carburetors.
There's only one drawback. It doesn't work for beans. There are too many tight bends in the cable for the cable to operate within the housing.
Ah well, back to the drawing board.....
